“How did the rose ever open its heart and give to this world all of its beauty?
It felt the encouragement of light against its being, otherwise we all remain too frightened”
Hafiz translated by Daniel Ladinsky
My hunch in that everyone gets too frightened sometimes. The most gifted artists, dancers, musicians and writers that I know, can get frozen with fear that they aren’t good enough. In that situation what we deeply need is a process that can help to feel the encouragement of light against our being…. and the flower opens easily and gives all of its beauty to the world.
The longer I have been a coach and mentor, the more fully I have come to believe that each of us is our own best teacher/guru/yogi. No-one knows you like you do. So why on earth have a coach? I like the image of travelling and journeying. Travel is wonderful and exciting. But sometimes it is scary enough to make us wish we had stayed at home and watched the telly! When we are journeying in the high mountains of developing our capacity to make the right choices for ourselves, it is great to have company on the journey. To have someone who can listen to our description of the landmarks, and give us some orientation.
That is the essence of coaching.
In the last few years, it has been my delight to introduce movement and body awareness into sessions. We hold so much wisdom in our bodies, and sometimes movement is the key to turning off the chatter in order to access our own deeper knowing. Movement Medicine Coaching is a wonderful process to access our own best teacher/guru/yogi.
